We worked with The Herd Theatre to create a speculative show for 2-5year olds and their families. Together we created an original story, wrote a script, made music, developed a design and thought carefully about the audience we’d like to reach. Below is a consolidation of our process.
Feelings are tricky, you don’t always know how they’re going to come out. Sometimes they trickle, sometimes they flood…
Felix the cloud wants to make friends with the children of the town that he watches over, so he comes down flooded with excitement. But the children don’t understand Felix’s feelings, they think he’s just trouble.
The town is flooded. Felix is alone.
Enter our town to help Mildred, Minnie and Tajorn get their toys back. Splash your way through this brand new show for 2-5 year olds and their families, full of music, water and feelings.
This is our town. This is its rubbish. This is Minnie, Tajorn and Mildred. And this is its cloud.
The rubbish takes over the town. The children can’t play so they go inside.
The cloud is upset. He wants the children to play outside. He cries and cries and rains and rains. He floods the town.
The children come out. The flood sees his chance. He snatches their toys and rushes away!
Mildred doesn’t hesitate, and dives into the water. Minnie follows. Tajorn starts getting in, nervously.
The water thinks it’s all a game so he moves the toys further and further away.
Tajorn starts to struggle. Tajorn can’t swim.
Mildred and Minnie rescue him.
The children go inside. Tajorn is upset, Mildred is angry, Minnie stays hidden, watching the water.
The water is alone. He is furious. He starts destroying everything around him.
Minnie spots him, and before he can go any further, she throws a piece of rubbish at him.
The water is annoyed. The water starts chasing Minnie.
Minnie is scared. She farts. The water laughs. The water farts.
Minnie and the water become friends. The water introduces himself: his name is Felix.
Felix returns the toys to the children.
The children, little by little, start playing in the water. In Felix.
Felix starts evaporating. He returns to his cloud form.
The children are again surrounded by rubbish.
The children start clearing the rubbish.
Felix leaves. The children wave goodbye.
